How To Make an Iced Americano

What is an Iced Americano?

An iced Americano is a type of coffee beverage made by adding cold water to brewed espresso. It is similar to a regular Americano, which is made by adding hot water to brewed espresso, but served over ice. The result is a refreshing, flavorful coffee with a bold, rich taste and a smooth, creamy texture. Iced Americanos are often served with milk and sweeteners, such as sugar or syrup, and are popular among coffee lovers who want a refreshing twist on a classic coffee drink.

How To Make an Iced Americano With Moka Pot

Making an iced Americano sounds fancier than it truly is, and it is quite easy to pull off. What you’ll need is some method of making an espresso, either with a true espresso maker, a moka pot, or something like an Aeropress or Nespresso. Keep in mind a true espresso requires at least 9 bars of pressure for it to be considered a ‘true’ espresso, but these other methods get close enough results.

For this example, we’ll use a moka pot and some Starbucks Espresso Roast Whole Bean Coffee. Since we’re making espresso, we need coarse grounds.

Grind 4 coffee cups worth of whole bean coffee.

Fill the water of the moka pot to below the safety valve.

Add the coffee grounds, but do not tamp!

Add heat… approx 4-6 minutes. When it gurgles, remove from heat. Run the base under cold water at the sink to stop the brewing process in its tracks.

Fill a glass with 1/2 cup of ice

Pour — WARNING: If pouring hot liquid into glass, beware you may shatter the glass! Place a metal spoon in the glass to help distribute the heat and avoid hurting yourself!

Dilute if necessary, or add more ice & enjoy!
